A few months ago, it looked almost certain that Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane would be leaving the club and sign for League leaders Manchester City. The deal looked highly likely to be sealed especially after the England international forward revealed that he was tired of playing at Spurs and wants to move on in his career to increase his chances of winning trophies. His public interview attracted Pep Guardiola and the City bosses and it eventually prompted them to make a £100 million bid for the striker but Spurs owner Daniel Levy was adamant that he was not going to let his prized asset leave the club.

Kane was evebtjslky forced to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and his hopes of sealing his dream move to the Etihad Stadium was dashed. However, during that period, Tottenham were still under the management of former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese boss was eventually sacked after a poor run of form and was replaced by Antonio Conte, former Chelsea manager.

The appointment of Conte was welcomed by Kane and he spoke later on that he liked the club’s decision to appoint a manager of Conte’s pedigree as it showed that they were interested in winning trophies. City, on the other hand, decided to splash the £100 million on another player and signed Kane’s international teammate Jack Grealish from Aston Villa instead.

After splashing £100 million on Grealish last summer, it does not look likely that City will be looking to spend that huge sum on one player again this summer. Also, with Kane feeling more comfortable playing under Conte, it does not look like he will still be interested in sealing a move away from Spurs so he could stay beyond this summer.
