New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill says that his team will undoubtedly be going into the Eastern Conference championship match against New England Revolution as the favourites. He also regards New York to be a better team than the opposition.
The two teams finished the season with only five points separating each other. Surprisingly, New England finished second in the table with New York Red Bulls only managing a disappointing fourth place. Despite this, the presence of players like Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill, and Bradley Wright Phillips mean that they head into the matches the favourites.
New England Revolution have made a lot of progress in the last few years under coach Heap, but since this match is away from home, they are expected to look and get a draw.
Cahill says that New York should comfortably be able to win this match if they play to their best of abilities. This is despite the former Everton midfielder being reminded of the fact that New England looked extremely good in the semi-final win over Columbus Crew. Cahill said that New York, despite possessing some of the best players in the MLS, have not come close to getting the MLS cup. He says that the match represents a great opportunity for them to get silverware.
“Really, if you say, who do I feel is the better team, I feel we are. I’m confident whatever side we put out at home, we should beat these guys tomorrow, [but] they’re a great team and they’ve done really well. This is a chance for the boys to step up and make a name for themselves. We’ve not been in contention properly to win an MLS Cup and this is our first really realistic chance, and I feel that we’re favorites to knock these off,” said Cahill.
