Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has termed his injury problems as boring. The Frenchman has missed much of the season due to recurring injury problems.
Manager Pep Guardiola’s lack of faith in the medical staff due to the constant injuries saw a veteran Doctor leave the club. Even then, Ribery has not returned to action and now looks set to miss the rest of the season. It was only a couple of years ago when the Frenchman was terrorising defences in Germany and across Europe. This saw him finish third in the list of contenders for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
The 32-year-old’s latest worries come with regard to his ankle. He sustained an ankle injury while playing against Shakhtar Donetsk back in March. Since then, he has been trying to recover and return to the first-team ahead of schedule. This has resulted in more setbacks, as there have been persistent niggles. Unable to include one of the best players in the world, Guardiola struggled for answers. This subsequently saw the team suffered embarrassing defeats in the DFP Pokal cup against their arch rivals Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League against Barcelona.
Even if Ribery returns to the first-team now, it is unlikely to mean anything. Hence, he is likely to give himself good rest before starting next season. “I’ve been dragging around this injury for such a long time now.
That’s really frustrating. I am just annoyed. It’s boring to have things like they are now,” said Ribery. There have suggestions that Bayern Munich may decide to part company with the Frenchman in the summer. Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been identified as a transfer target. Even though the Belgian could cost more than £ 60 million, Bayern are prepared to meet this transfer fee in order to replace Ribery.
