Premier League champions Manchester City are still optimistic about signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer. The Citizens have less than two weeks left to do a deal for the England national team skipper.
Sources close to English publication 90min revealed that Manchester City are still pushing to sign Harry Kane this summer despite the reluctance from Spurs to do a deal for him.
Manchester City had a big bid of £100m turned down for Kane in June. The same £100m offer was accepted for his England national team colleague, Jack Grealish thus making him the most expensive player in British football. Grealish have already played two times for Manchester City since his transfer from Aston Villa.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester City returned to Spurs with a bid of £125m but they didn’t get any response from the London club. Several reports have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur might be forced to sell if their asking price of £160m is met for Kane. It remains to be seen if Manchester City will get to that asking price though £150m is a possibility according to the aforementioned media portal.
Manchester City showed that they need a quality striker like Harry Kane after they lost back-to-back games against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. The Citizens were beaten by a lone goal on both occasions.
Leicester City beat Manchester City 1-0 thanks to the late penalty from Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho to win the Community Shield before Spurs striker Son Heung-Min scored in the second half to inflict a 1-0 home defeat on Manchester City at the start of their Premier League defence.
